Many have listened to this show- if only for the Close Encounters Jam- but few have mentioned the outstanding Other One which follows and the equally interesting St Stephen that seems to come out of left field- the peak of the Stephen jam becomes almost an entirely different song- it is unique and beautiful- Dark Star had its "beautiful" jam- I nominate the outro of St Stephen at this show as the St Stephen "Beautiful Jam".

but there is more- it keeps slipping in and out of NFA and St Stephen in turns- check it out- much better than I first realized

Welcome aboard Liam, I have been writing about this second set for months in this forum, every time a thread comes up about Other One, St Stephen or NFA. I was beginning to think that maybe I was biased aboout this show because I was there, so it's nice to see someone else offer a similar take to mine.

The whole Terrapin through the end is awesome. The Other One is an intense 16 minute jam that just keeps going on and on and takes some interesting detours along the way, it is one of the last long drawn out version there is. St Stephen is one of my favorite versions, it is raw, powerful and unrelenting and is the only version I can think of that skips the intro and powers right into the riff. The NFA is a favorite as well, Phil is especially on here, and plays this descending machine gun riff throughout that is just great. The Round & Round is one of those old versions that starts slow and then picks up in the jam and rocks the whole crowd. This is one of my favorite second sets.

Wow! Thanks guys. Purple, I must have been sleeping on the job, because I generally follow your recommendations, but completely missed this show.

Liam's description is tantalizing, to say the least. I think we all have our heads buried in the Holiday Season, but once that passes I'll be seeking a copy of this show...

Thanks again...Happy Holidaze.

I agree.

Liam, it seems like you have been listening to a lot of 78 lately. I actually just finished listening to the entire year in order (god, i love the archive!). Certainly not the strongest year for the band, but there are a lot of highlights and nice shows. This one would easily make my top ten of the year.

I recommend 12-28-78 as a show you may not know. I had never heard it until earlier this week, and was blown away.
